Many thanks to all who hosted and showed up to events on our Spring tour! We had a blast meeting new friends and catching up with old ones. Special shout-outs to Williams-Sonomas in Richmond/Durham/Columbia; to Jay Pierce and the Lucky 32 crew (Smoked Shrimp with Green Goddess Fingerlings…yow!); to Sheila and Deal at the Salisbury Bookpost (congrats on the gorgeous new location!); to the SC Book Fest crowd (Columbia: Famously Hot!); to Cook’s Station in Greenville (celeb sightings: Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Strobel and KiKi Strobel Ross; love y’all!); and to Terry, Lanier, Peggy, and Mark, our hosts in Beaufort: THANK YOU! Still recovering from the Charleston Wine and Food Fest, way, way too much fun…
Over the next two weeks, we’ve got events in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina, and we might be coming to your town! Check our tour schedule for book signings and events in Richmond, VA, Durham, NC, Greensboro, NC, Salisbury, NC, Columbia, SC, Greenville, SC, Beaufort, SC, and Charleston where we can meet you in person.
If you missed our Martha Show appearance this week, it’s just been posted online, complete with Martha’s apology to all southerners for hating boiled peanuts! Lots of buttermilk was splashed around the studio, and we had an awesome time. Click on the “play entire show” link to see the roundtable discussion that starts the episode. We suprised her with some boiled peanuts–and Martha surprised us by asking us if our mom had mentioned meeting her a few weeks ago…Nope! (It was Ted’s mother-in-law Lucy that she had met!)
Wednesday morning, January 27th, we’re cooking up three recipes from Simple Fresh Southern on the Martha Stewart Show, follow this link for show times and stations: http://www.marthastewart.com/television-listings
It’s our first time on the show, and we can’t wait!!
Buttermilk Fresh Cheese, Crispy Skin Salmon with Buttermilk-Mint Sauce, and Buttermilk Pudding Cakes…do you notice a pattern there? It’s our favorite ingredient, and by the end of the day tomorrow, will be Martha’s too (if it isn’t already).
For all of the five weeks we’ve been on tour, Simple Fresh Southern has held strong (around #7) on the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance List of Nonfiction Bestsellers, among the likes of Malcolm Gladwell, Mitch Albom, and Mike Huckabee. We’re grateful to the fans and booksellers who are spreading the gospel of Simple Fresh Southern, and we hope that for those of you who’ve already bought the book, that it brings happiness to your kitchen–and to your dining table!–during the holidays.
In case you missed them, listen to the two recent radio shows which featured us talking about Simple Fresh Southern: last Friday, our interview with Walter Edgar on Walter Edgar’s Journal, a superb one-hour show covering South Carolina culture, aired throughout South Carolina on NPR stations. Then, on Saturday and Sunday, our interview with Lynne Rossetto Kasper on “The Splendid Table” aired at various times in various markets across the United States.
Thanks to all who showed up to our signings in Columbia, Greenville, Asheville, Charlotte, Pawleys Island, and, finally, Charleston, and made the last week of the tour such a success. It was the perfect end to a really fun tour, that allowed us to catch up with so many great friends, and to make new friends, too!
Check out our friends Mindy Merrell and RB Quinn’s post about our 14-hour visit to Nashville. We thought no two people had more fun in the kitchen than we did until we met Mindy and RB. Check out their website, Cheater Chef, and their book Cheater BBQ, whose slow-cooker recipes we *especially* love.
The post includes memories–and more photos–of a previous visit we made to Nashville in a 1972 Buick Limited (455 V8, made in Flint, Michigan). It was a barbecue journey, naturally.
Here’s Mindy and RB’s post
Texas peeps: We’re back on the road this week. Check our Tour Schedule for Events in Dallas (12/1), Austin (12/2), and Houston (12/3). We hope to see y’all there! We go to New York 12/4-12/8 to do some media, then back on the road in SC and NC for a week.
We’re headed toward Asheville, North Carolina, Charlotte and back to Charleston Monday morning, after a fantastic swing through the Southeast. South Carolina-Georgia-Alabama-Louisiana-Mississippi-Tennessee-North Carolina… More to come, after a Thanksgiving break–in Columbus, Ohio (Ted) and Houston (Matt).
