Sunday Sit-Down Supper at M. Judson Booksellers
At this installation of M. Judson’s “Sunday Supper” series, Matt and Ted will discuss their reissue of the ground-breaking 1969 Princess Pamela’s Soul Food Cookbook by Pamela Strobel, a Spartanburg native who became as a well-known restaurateur and jazz singer in New York City. HUB CITY FARMERSMARKET LUNCHEON
Hub City Writers Project hosts this luncheon of Pamela Strobel-inspired dishes to celebrate the reissue of Strobel’s Princess Pamela’s Soul Food Cookbook, originally published in 1969. Matt and Ted will tell the story of Strobel’s early life in Spartanburg, how she came to achieve success as a chef-restaurateur and jazz singer in Manhattan, and how they came to reissue this important book. The menu will be prepared by The Butterfly Foundation, a non-profit culinary job-training program on Spartanburg’s Northside. The event is sponsored by Milliken & Co. of Spartanburg and Springer Mountain Chicken of Mt. Airy, GA, and proceeds will benefit the Southside Heritage Committee, which provides scholarships to Carver Middle School students, and the Spartanburg Juneteeth Celebration, June 17th at Stewart Park. ATLANTA FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL
In this, the seventh year of the only American food festival devoted to the South, Matt and Ted return to curate two Connoisseur Dinners, “The Fingerbowl Chronicles,” on Friday night and “Backyard Bacchanal” on Saturday. These dinners are designed to be explore the breadth and depth of contemporary southern cooking in an intimate setting that foster conviviality and connection with some of the South’s greatest culinary talents.
