Strategies for Mac-n-Cheeses that Rock!” is on the BI-LO Cooking Stage at 1PM. We’re also appearing at 5PM on the E Stage Sponsored by HRC Medical Center. Very psyched to have prep-support on the cooking stage by the G’ville cookware store The Cook’s Station, site of an epic Lee Bros. demo Spring 2010. Hope to see yall there!
In the September 2010 issue of Food & Wine Magazine, you’ll find “Party at the Drop of A Hat,” the story we wrote about a Charleston party with our friends, milliner-to-the-stars Leigh Magar and her husband, artist and architect Johnny Tucker. We developed recipes that channel Leigh’s mad-hatter-meets-southern-farmers-market spirit, and served them in the garden of her Charleston studio, with many fedoras, trilbys, and cocktail lids in attendance. Spicy Watermelon Gazpacho with Crab! Pan-Roasted Okra and Corn! Fried Triggerfish with Green Tomato Tartar Sauce! So much more summer left, y’all, gotta rock it!

We were delighted to learn over the 4th of July weekend that The Lee Bros. Simple Fresh Southern won the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance Book Award in Cooking. If you’re grilling this weekend, try our Cheese Relish Burger, which recently appeared in the Associated Press “20 Burgers of Summer” Feature. It’s a burger topped with the Cheese Relish–a pimento cheese variation we found in the D.C. area–a recipe that appears in The Lee Bros. Simple Fresh Southern. Smoke Southern Barbecue Revival is truly a one-of-a-kind restaurant in Blythewood, SC! After the “Take on the South” taping, Tom, Heath, Dan, and the gang hosted a positively epic dinner at their roadhouse/backyard-woodpile/performance-shed/fire-pit after the taping. Heath’s kitchen rocked a menu from Simple Fresh Southern: Garlic-Chile Soft Shell Crabs! Ambrosia with Shrimp! Duck with Raspberries and Rose! Oh, and let’s not forget the pick-your-own suckling pig and lamb stations, too. Wildflowers on the tables, awesome live music, and a first for us: a bellydancer performing at a booksigning (definitely won’t be the last!). Thanks to all the guests and performers. And for those who didn’t make it off the wait list, we will definitely be back at Smoke soon!
