The first road event in Durham was a huge success, a basement full of clever North Carolinians whom we found noshing on Amy Tornquist’s (Watts Grocery restaurant) nibbles from Simple Fresh Southern: yummy Shrimp Pate, deviled eggs and Sweet Potato and Okra Fritters with Garlic Buttermilk Dip. Made some folks laugh, answered a bunch of questions (including some zingers) and then signed many cases of books–thanks Tom! An awesome book store!!
Dinner afterward at Watts Grocery was incredible–by mistake both of us ordered North Carolina Rockfish Muddle, just couldn’t resist. Spicy with tons of amazing little potato slices and the sweetest end-of-season cherry tomatoes you’ve ever tasted.
And, after our 600 miles of driving today, a night at The Umstead Hotel!!
